Working with the body and actions, various sounds and rhythms, and daily and domesticated objects, I explore social conventions embedded in Cultural Identity and social norms through performance.
Born in Japan, Yui Yamamoto’s practice includes live performance, installation, and site-responsive work. Positioning herself as an East Asian Female whose characters are often seen as submissive, she empathise the passive beings such as domesticated objects. Using performance as a central medium, the artist helps herself and passive beings to express their existence.
